Individual Therapy for Teens and Young Adults

Individual therapy is designed to address a variety of concerns, including challenges with managing intense emotions, mood regulation, anxiety, suicidal behavior or self-harm, drug and alcohol use and interpersonal effectiveness.

When working with adolescents, caregiver(s) are generally welcome to intermittently attend a portion of these sessions to discuss questions, concerns, and progress. It is ideal to have these conversations with the adolescent present to better assist the family in working together.

Family Counseling

Family counseling is designed to provide support to families with concerns relating to their relationships with each other. The purpose of these sessions are to work together to determine the needs of each member.

During sessions, I provide psychoeducation, non-judgemental explanations of emotional dysregulation and a space to address issues within the family. The goal of family counseling is to create a safe space so all family members feel validated and respected.

Family Connections Program

Family Connections is an evidence-based group program comprised of 12 weekly sessions. This program provides education, skill training, and support for those who support someone struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder or Emotion Dysregulation.

This online course gives caregivers the opportunity to connect with other families struggling with similar issues. Click here to learn more about specific areas of focus.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is an evidence-based approach used primarily to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders (including phobias, panic disorders, generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety).

The exposure component refers to practicing confronting thoughts, images, objects, and situations that provoke anxiety and/or obsessions. The response prevention component of ERP refers to making a choice not to engage in the anxiety-related behaviors or obsessions.

While starting ERP may seem daunting, I am here to support you through each step.

My Therapeutic Approaches

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is an evidence-based, cognitive behavioral treatment originally developed to treat individuals suffering from suicidal ideation and self-injurious behaviors. Over time, DBT has been found to be highly effective for treating depression, substance abuse, PTSD, and eating disorders.

The term ‘dialectical’ means allowing two things to be true at the same time, even if they are opposites. The primary focus of DBT is the co-existence of acceptance and change. In DBT, we assume individuals are doing the best they can while also acknowledging that they need to change in order to reach their goals.

DBT aims to help individuals reach their Life Worth Living! DBT specifically focuses on building skills relating to: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
